# install

`inc` and `incodex` are interchangeable for this command and all its flags.

```bash
incodex install [--yes] [--dry-run]
```

macOS defaults to `/Applications/ChatGPT.app`, creates a verified backup, installs the loader, and ad-hoc signs the host. Windows registers the current user's separately owned Runtime integration; it does not patch or copy the Store package. Fully quit Store Codex before installing. Reopen the official icon afterward.

## Flags

| Flag | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| `--yes` | Skip confirmation; required without a terminal. |
| `--dry-run, -n` | Print the plan without mutation. |
| `--app <path>` | macOS only: target a specific .app. |
| `--clone` | macOS development only: patch a copy at ~/.incodex/scratch/ChatGPT.app. Cannot combine with --app. |
